The new Super sunglasses Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 ‘Metropolis’ Collection is now available.

For this cold winter season Super delves into the depths of Fritz Lang’s 1927 iconic sci-fi film ‘Metropolis’ — emerging with new retro super futuristic visions for its lineup.

Dynamic, mechanical, and undoubtedly fresh, the range features a host of raw metallic materials, textures, and rich natural colors.  Super digs into the blacksmiths workshop carving out one of a kind creations using pure steel: shiny, matte and antiqued gold metal and silver galvanic. Other notable highlights include: distressed leather combined with brushed gold, ‘marbled’ acetates, art deco / geometric touches, and one of our favorites the unassuming stealth of the “Matte Black” series featuring their core shapes done in all matte black paired with dark black lenses.

The Collection:

Based on the classic Francis model the Saldatura is enriched by a heavy machined process. It is produced in gold metal, silver metal, and a combination version. Offered in gold for the Basic Shape, silver for the Ciccio, and for the Flat Top with a combination of gold and silver — All complemented by black acetate and dark Carl Zeiss lenses.

The meticulous creation of the Metropolis collection started by choosing the right materials. Since the inspiration was drawn from Fritz Lang’s futurist visions, there couldn’t be a more appropriate material than cold metal.   Ultra light weight and strong, the thin stainless steel is finished in either matte silver or matte gold, and is fitted with nose pads which offers a better and more finely tuned fit for most bridges.

From the dark, grim, melancholic depths of the Metropolis, the Matte Black collection has emerged.

Sure to become a favorite, Super has expanded their Matte Black offerings to several of their core shapes: W, People, Jaguar, Ilaria, Gals, Ciccio, and America.  Matte Black acetate paired with dark Zeiss Lenses completes an understated style that proves sometimes less is more.

The art deco movement of the 1920’s was an innovative design period which used shapes, patterns, and forms to express futurist insights.  Super pays tribute to that indelible period by combining deco details with its signature contemporary silhouettes: Racer and Lucia. Shiny black acetate and dark black Carl Zeiss lenses matched with shiny golden detailing for an eternally cool sunglass.

Super’s signature acetate frames – Flat Top, Basic Shape and America – are given a subtle industrial touch with metallic rivets on the temples, additionally they feature tempered glass lenses by Barberini for superb optics and scratch resistance. A simple, strong, and timeless style.

One of the key elements of the Metropolis collection is the use of raw materials and rich natural colors.  The Pietra (stone) series plays on this idea with the use of a unique marbled acetate. A shiny black front offers a classic balance with the gold metal and marbled acetate temples, resulting is an eclectic and sophisticated sunglass.

The industrial meets the handmade in this new addition to Super’s collection.

The Flat Top Francis featuring brushed gold metal temples and the Lucia Ilaria model with brushed silver metal are hand-covered with the finest Italian leather in a distressed charcoal grey shade — it is then set off with deep blue Zeiss lenses.  The Lang is an original and luxurious piece of handcrafted eyewear, a perfect addition to brave the cold winter months.

Starting from the very name it swiftly borrows, the Metropolis collection is an explicit ode to the great master of cinematography, Fritz Lang, and his groundbreaking film. The inspiration for the entire collection was drawn from the deco` period in which the movie appeared, characterized by the particular combination of traditional craft motifs and streamlined industrial products and materials.
The Visiva series pays respect to the original source with a precise selection of film stills from the above mentioned 1927 expressionist science-fiction film. The stills have been mounted in a ghostly manner to the inside of Super’s signature silhouettes.
