Graz Eyewear 2012

Graz sunglasses 2012

Graz Eyewear 2012 collection is now available.

Always original, constantly evolving, and perfecting his craft, Graz creates a variety of modern day classics for 2012.  The new collection shows great expanded range. We see chunky avant-garde frames such as the “General Idea“, pieces sharp enough for a black tie event (the “Otis“), as well as subtly redefined classics like the “Stray” series.

There’s a great use of geometric shape and crisp clean lines, from round to square to even octagon.  The range flawlessly utilizes a host of colors, textures, and materials. It is encompassed with rich acetates and one of a kind matte finishes in unique colors like matte root beer or bottle, frames made of metal (stainless steel or titanium), as well as several great metal and acetate combination styles.

Maison Martin Margiela X Cutler and Gross 2012

Maison Martin Margiela sunglasses 2012

Maison Martin Margiela 2012 sunglass collection is now available.

After a very successful collaboration last year, French fashion label Maison Martin Margiela once again teams up with luxury eyewear maker Cutler and Gross for a full collection of sunglasses for 2012. The collection fuses the very best of two worlds; Maison Martin Margiela brings their signature expertise for experimental deconstructionist design, while the highly esteemed Cutler and Gross sees it to fruition with impeccable attention detail, materials, and workmanship.

The new range takes powerful past inspirations and themes and re-invents them through Margiela’s discerning perspective.

The main themes include:

‘Cable Temple’ – Our favorite of the season, the ‘Cable Temple’ uses a temple design whose origin can be traced back to the 1800’s.  The Italian acetate frame front is paired with German made stainless steel cable temples which wrap around the wearer’s ears for a secure and comfortable fit.  Also rare for an acetate frame they feature nose pads which help provide a better fit on a wider variety of noses.  Available in three colors: classic Black,  a rich Dark Turtle, as well as a very unique transparent “Champagne”.

‘Replica France’ – For the first time, Maison Martin Margiela has adapted its ‘Replica’ line to include sunglasses.  ‘Replica France’ is based on French motoring sunglasses of the 1970s; it is a semi-rounded design with a unique embossed front outline and tapered sides. Available in Black and Champagne.

‘Rimless’ –  Light weight, minimalist, yet completely distinct and memorable.  The Rimless is a style which plays on the illusion that the lenses are free from form and not surrounded by a frame. The very slim arms are made from stainless steel.  Available as the ‘Rimless Pilot’ style as well as the bold and oversized ‘Rimless Round’.

Cutler And Gross Spring/Summer 2012 | Hong Kong Love Story

Cutler and Gross - Spring Summer 2012

Cutler and Gross Spring/Summer 2012 “A Hong Kong Love Story” is now in stock.

Each season Cutler and Gross whisk us away with an alluring passionate tale. Through a time, a place, a mood — an awe inspiring collection perfectly reveals itself.  The Spring Summer 2012 range entitled “Hong Kong Love Story” transports us to Hong Kong in the early 1960’s, with a romantic feeling of forbidden love.

cutler-and-gross-inspiration board
“He was a broken-hearted journalist, she a beautiful but world-weary young married secretary, neglected by her work-obsessed husband. The couple met by chance in Hong Kong, simply by walking past each other to their different apartments.
Cupid’s arrow aimed precisely at the two lost souls and they fell instantly in love. As time went by she became more fearless with her style and more beautiful and alluring by wearing stronger colours and patterned cheongsams. He also became more dapper and more protective towards her.”

With a touch of nostalgia Cutler and Gross introduces several one of a kind shapes of both sun and optical this season. Thoughts of Chinese engravings, the warm colors of sculpted wood, jasmine tea leaves, and the fragrance of mango and lychee give rise to stunning colors such as: “Rose Chinoise” a beautiful soft pink, vibrant “China Blue”, “Veneer”, and “Lychee”.  As always, the quality and craftsmanship of each frame is  remarkable and at the absolute highest possible standard.  From the materials to the sizing and proportions, each subtle detail is perfectly executed, such as the signature engraving pattern on the “1053″ model, or the filigree etched metal work and brow bar on their “1055″ aviator model, among our favorites.

Building off a very successful limited edition collaboration last year with Graz Eyewear — Ellery and Graz have now joined forces once again for an expanded lineup of special edition ELLERY shades for 2012. AM Eyewear | Spring/Summer 2012

AM Eyewear Sunglasses
These aren’t your grandparent’s frames!  No one is bringing rock star status to the shade game quite like
AM Eyewear.

Founded in 2003, Australian label AM Eyewear is always fashion forward with its fresh rebellious style.  Since its inception it has garnered a cult-like following, both in Australia and world-wide, for its bespoke designs and unrelenting commitment to craftsmanship and quality.  They’ve been featured in magazines such as GQ, Bazaar, and Grazia… and celeb fans include Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna, and Sienna Miller (just to name a few).

Each new collection is reflective of head designer and director Simon Ponnusamy’s many sources of inspiration. From his fast-paced life traveling and mingling with some of the world’s biggest rock stars to his mother’s collection of vintage sunglasses and photos from her days in the fashion industry.

“I work in the old, organic way.” says Ponnusamy.
“I design using only a pad and pencil in order to feel each line of the frame. It takes a lot longer than using a computer because I’m forever erasing and then remarking the page until I get it right. But I just love the way this allows the frame to slowly come alive as I get to know every line intimately.”

Out of this creative process comes a variety of cutting edge styles, each one a special piece in its own right.

italian-tecno-seven-teeth-fixed-hingesNo expense is spared or shortcut is taken in the manufacturing process. Each frame is individually handcrafted and handpolished for up to 14 hours using only the highest quality materials. The acetate frames are constructed using Italian Mazzucchelli cellulose acetate – a far superior product to the mould injectable plastics commonly used in mass-produced frames. Other notable features include: Italian Tecno ‘Seven Teeth Fixed’ or German OBE spring-loaded hinges, Japanese stainless steel, and perhaps most notable are the Italian Military grade APX Nylon lenses which all have a back Anti-Reflective coating.

“People make these frames. They are designed by hand, crafted by hand, polished by hand.”
Ponnusamy

Riviera Rebellion – Spring/Summer 2012:
In AM Eyewear’s latest Spring/Summer 2012 collection and campaign, entitled “Riviera Rebellion”, they look for inspiration in “life on the coast from Nice to Marseille in the 1930’s through 1960’s”; for those familiar, think of the film  “The Talented Mr. Ripley”.  Of course the frames are infused with a large dose of signature AM “rebellion”, hence the title of the collection. It features bold shapes such as an updated Malcom X style named the “Kaz”, and a streamlined all plastic frame named “Merridy”, two of our favorites.  Also some great colorways such as the Limited Edition “Milky Way” color, or a unique tortoise perfectly named “Old School Tortoise”.

Without further ado we present the latest SS 2012 campaign, along with some of our favorite items from the collection:

Cutler and Gross X Erdem, 2012

Cutler and Gross x Erdem Sunglasses
Luxury eyewear maker Cutler and Gross collaborates for a second time with world renowned fashion designer Erdem for a special limited edition sunglass: The Marlene.

It really doesn’t get better than this.  Cutler and Gross’ unparalleled handmade craftsmanship is fused with Erdem’s discerning eye for print and color.  Named after Erdem’s mother, Marlene, the sunglasses are inspired by the glasses his mother wore in the 1960’s.

The frame is available in four truly stunning colorways which perfectly echo the sophisticated lace and floral prints of Erdem’s Spring Summer 2012 ready to wear collection (which was recently shown during London Fashion Week); It is available in “Ystad Flower”, White Lace, Black Lace, and Navy.  Giving it an extra bespoke touch, three of the colors actually have materials from Erdem’s SS12 collection encapsulated within the acetate!

“The woman wearing these glasses is chic, independent, and marches to the beat of her own drum.”

Waiting For The Sun Sunglasses

Waiting For The Sun Sunglasses

Eyegoodies is proud to welcome to the site “Waiting for the Sun” sunglasses.

Always on the lookout for unique designers we couldn’t help but be drawn to the hand-carved all wooden sunglasses of Waiting for the Sun. Handmade in Paris France each pair of sunglasses is meticulously constructed using super lightweight natural materials such as Australian tea wood, rose wood, or bamboo. Classic styles such as the wayfarer, cat-eye, P3, and even a round John Lennon esque style are given a completely different look and feel.

Wood offers great properties unlike any other material —- each piece of wood has different natural veins, making each sunglass unique.  Also wood changes overtime with use, from sunlight, moisture…so like a faded loved pair of jeans it only gets better with age.  Other notable frame features include optical spring hinges for increased comfort and Carl Zeiss lenses which are known for their superb optics.

Each pair of sunglasses comes complete with a special edition 2041 cm2 artist designed scarf, as part of Waiting for the Sun’s “2041 program”.  The 2041 program is a partnership allowing various artists from all over the world, such as Steven Harrington, Parra, PAM, and more, to design a 2041 cm2 sized scarf to protect your glasses.  The scarf design included with each pair of sunglasses is chosen at random.
