Garrett Leight, the son of Oliver Peoples founder Larry Leight, has branched out to create a namesake brand of his own: Garrett Leight California Optical (GLCO for short). GLCO is laid back, sophisticated, and inspired by his California surroundings. There is a timeless aesthetic to the entire collection. It’s not over complicated, just perfectly executed classic 20th century American styles with a modern twist. Having come from an optical background gives Leight the unique ability to pay attention to the subtle details which makes any frame just that much better: such as the fit, proportion, and comfort. Each frame also boasts some great technical features.
The GLCO Speedway is clearly the rebel, the outcast, or simply the individualist. Not your typical aviator, Speedway was specifically inspired by a frame worn by Gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson in the late 1960’s and worn consistently through the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. Also named after a street neighboring the Venice boardwalk, an area made famous by Jim Morrison and The Doors. This limited edition frame is given a unique powder-coat color treatment. The powder-coated finish gives the metal a matte appearance, as well as durability from the elements. It is offered here in powder-coat silver, with “Honey” accents and brown gradient lenses.
